Cookie Policy

Last updated: 17 April 2026

This page explains how this website uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies. We keep our use of them minimal and purposeful, and will update this page before that changes.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device via your browser. They allow the site to remember certain things between page loads. Similar technologies, including local storage and session storage, serve comparable purposes and are also described here.

Necessary storage

The following storage is always active because it is essential to how the site works. It does not identify you and is not used for marketing or advertising.

Session identifier

This site stores an anonymous session identifier in your browser's local storage. This identifier is a randomly generated string. It contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you as an individual. It is not linked to your name, email address, or IP address.

The session identifier associates your interactions within a browsing session. For example, it ensures that your engagement with a right in the rights section is not counted more than once, and that your System Awareness Test result is stored consistently. It is not used for marketing, advertising, or tracking across other websites.

You can clear this identifier at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or site data through your browser settings. Doing so will reset your interaction history on the site.

Cookie preference

When you make a cookie choice through the preference panel, your decision is stored in your browser's local storage under the key tom_cookie_consent. This ensures we remember your preference and do not show the preference panel on every visit. It contains only the value "accepted" or "rejected" and nothing else. Clearing your browser's local storage will remove this record, and the panel will reappear on your next visit.

Analytics cookies

We may use analytics tools to understand how visitors find and engage with this website: which pages are read, which sections are most visited, and how people navigate the content. This helps us improve the site and the framework it presents.

Analytics cookies and any associated scripts are only loaded if you have explicitly accepted optional cookies through the preference panel. If you decline, no analytics technology is loaded on your device.

Current status: No analytics service is currently active on this site. The infrastructure to load analytics tools is in place and governed by the consent system described here. This section will be updated to name the service and describe what is collected before any analytics is deployed.

We do not use advertising cookies, profiling cookies, retargeting pixels, or any tools that track you across other websites.

Your cookie preferences

When you first visit this site, a preference panel appears at the bottom of the page. You have two choices:

  • Accept all: necessary storage remains active, and analytics cookies will load if an analytics service is configured.
  • Reject analytics: only necessary storage remains active. No analytics scripts load.

You can change your choice at any time. Use the button below or the Cookie settings link in the footer at the bottom of every page.

Payments

If you make a financial contribution through the site, you will be redirected to a Stripe-hosted payment page. Stripe may set its own cookies and browser storage during that process. Those are governed by Stripe's own cookie and privacy policies, not this one.

Social sharing

This site includes sharing buttons for platforms including X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Reddit. These buttons do not load any third-party scripts or set any cookies until you click them. When you click a share button, you are taken to the relevant platform, which may then set its own cookies under its own policies.

Managing cookies and local storage

Your browser gives you control over cookies and stored data. Most browsers let you view what is stored on your device, block cookies from specific sites, and clear stored data when you close the browser. You can also clear local storage manually through your browser's developer tools or site settings. The exact options vary by browser, so consult your browser's help documentation for instructions. Bear in mind that clearing essential cookies or local storage may affect how parts of this site work.

Changes

Our use of cookies and local storage may evolve as the site develops. We will update this page to reflect any significant changes before they take effect. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
