Data Requests

How to exercise your rights in relation to personal data held by The Open Manifesto.

You have rights in relation to any personal data we hold about you. This page explains what those rights are and how to use them. We take these obligations seriously and will respond to your request promptly.

What you can ask us to do

You can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, why we hold it, and how we use it. If anything we hold is inaccurate or out of date, you can ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete your data. If you signed the manifesto and would like your name removed from the signatories list, you can request that at any time.

If you submitted a proposal and provided your email address, you can ask us what we hold in relation to that submission and request its deletion. If your proposal has already been incorporated into the framework in some form, full deletion may not be possible, but we will discuss this with you.

In certain circumstances you can ask us to restrict processing rather than delete, for example while a question about accuracy is being resolved. Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests, you have the right to object, and we will consider your objection on its merits. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of anything we processed before that point.

Anonymous and session-based interactions

Several features on this site, including rights engagement responses, reflection text, and System Awareness Test results, are stored alongside an anonymous session identifier and no other personally identifying information. Once stored, this data cannot be traced back to an individual by us or by anyone else.

If you would like to understand what interaction data might be associated with a session identifier you hold in your browser's local storage, you are welcome to contact us. We will do our best to assist, though the anonymous nature of that data means we cannot guarantee we can locate or link it to you.

How to make a request

Write to us at hello@theopenmanifesto.org with the subject line Data Request. Please describe your request clearly and include the name and email address you used when interacting with the site so that we can locate your data. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request.

What to expect

We aim to respond within the time required by applicable law, which is typically one calendar month. If a request requires more time, we will let you know promptly. There is no charge for reasonable requests.

If something goes wrong

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data or your request, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK or the relevant body in your own country.
